Story behind the business

My parents had businesses, and I was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug from the day I was born. It was something I always knew I wanted to do, but the business side of fashion didn’t come until I was about 10 years old, when I learned to sew and thought I’d be a world-famous fashion designer. My mother has sewn since she was a teen, making her entire wardrobe each summer for the following school year. This always fascinated me, and I loved watching her create projects with her sewing machine. It was then that I knew fashion would be my career, but there was always a part of me that wanted to make sure it was doing good for the world. I went on to receive my degrees in fashion design and merchandising, studying at F.I.T. and proceeding to work every part of the business from the retail floor to importing goods to buying and merchandising, having my goal in mind but trying to figure out what exactly it would become. I had my daughter in 2020 and was managing the US market for a global marketplace based in London. I was bored, sitting at my computer every day with no actual human interaction other than via phone or video call. It was then that I knew it was time. I started to build out a website in 2022 and get all the proper business information set. At first, I thought it would be an e-commerce store, but that’s no different from any other company. I then received a promotion to oversee customer support globally and put my dream aside. I worked countless hours, exhausted and unhappy. I spent nights wide awake, spinning my wheels, and researching, knowing I still planned to start my business, but it needed to be different and to do something good for the world. As I looked into companies to work with, I noticed more and more information about the amount of waste generated each year and how these items end up in landfills or are dumped in other countries, destroying their environments. This led me down a rabbit hole, where I realized I could work with companies to buy their overstock merchandise at a fraction of the cost, which I could then sell at a deep discount. The best part – IT HELPS THE ENVIRONMENT! This lit a fire, and I was ready to go, but I knew I didn’t want it to just be a website, and I didn’t want a typical retail store. The idea for the secret sale was born. Similar to sample sales, except the product is all sizes, not just samples, and brand new. The secret – each month would be new brands and a new selection. The only way you would know what would be part of the secret sale is by showing up each month and shopping the sale.
